I have been thankful enough to have gotten the experience of volunteering twice at the Plano Balloon Festival. Growing up in Plano, Texas, one of the big events that I had always heard about was The Plano Balloon Festival. Each year, in September postings and flyers would be put out around town trying to draw the attention of Plano residents to come to this big event. I had always wanted to attend but due to financial issues, money was just too tight. My first year was 2018, I needed volunteering hours for something personal I had been going through. Expecting that weekend to go great, it ended up raining the whole three days and nothing was able to happen. The field was rained out to the point that everything was under water completely! Despite not getting to do anything I still loved the experience. Everyone volunteering that weekend was told to meet at an off-site location close to the event where we received a volunteer shirt, bottled water and a choice of snacks. From there everyone was split into two separate tents where we would go through orientation. Hearing the pilots talk about their experiences and those that had volunteered in the past inspired me to volunteer again. In 2019 as soon as I saw that the volunteering slots had opened up I jumped without hesitation! Peg Leg Pete was the balloon I was assigned to. I don't remember who the pilot was but I remember them being very welcoming. I volunteered for about four or five hours again this year and again there were no balloons being flown. But this time because of high winds. The drive to the field was exciting! we dressed up like pirates, did the candle lighting and met the audience. for those that are skeptical about signing up to volunteer, I can definitely say that this is something everyone should experience. It really gives you a bigger appreciation for what the city and the pilots go through for helping put on a big experience like this. I can't wait for next year myself!
I love blues music, especially artists like Jimi Hendrix and SRV (Stevie Ray Vaughan). Their music really resonates with me. When it comes to achieving success or good luck, I'm willing to put in the effort and dedication necessary.
